Brass and wind ensemble practice tonight

CHRISTMAS BRASS AND WIND ENSEMBLE we will be having a brass and wind ensemble play carols on Sunday, December 16th at all 3 services. If you are 8th grade or older, we invite you to join us!! Practices are on Wednesdays, Dec 5 & 12th, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Please contact Nancy Holm ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or Dave Lambert ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) with questions. Show up tonight in the Ministry Center at church if you are interested in being a part of the band!

Cookbooks available this Sunday

After a lot of hard work, the C-Group cookbooks are available for people's charitable donations on $10. They'll be made available after services this Sunday and next Sunday as a fundraiser for the Belize missions trip this summer. If you're planning to go to Belize with us, make sure you contact Mary Ronning ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) so you can help with the cookbooks the next two Sundays and earn some funds toward your Belize account.

And if you're a parent and are not planning to go to Belize, bring your checkbook this Sunday and next Sunday to get some Christmas gifts out of the way. Thanks for supporting the youth and the upcoming missions trip!

Two options for Sunday night, December 2nd

Two Sundays from now two on December 2nd big events are going on and you guys can choose which you'd like to be a part of.
  • Burning Bush will be at The Barn as normally scheduled, starting at 6:00 PM. Mark McClintick, youth pastor at Lake Community Church, will be sharing about how to give yourself away and of course Joe and the band will be leading worship.
  • A Christmas Tale, a theatrical musical, will be performed at our church at 7:00 PM. The drama involves a troop of storytellers (adult and youth actors) who share the story of Christmas with a surprise ending. A holiday desert follows the program. Get tickets for $3 at church.

The Friendly Costume Party pictures are online

Thanks to all the students who helped out with the Friendly Costume Party! Sarah Murphy, a mom at the party, said this to you all on our youth group Facebook wall:

"I just wanted to write a note to say thank you to all the youth who helped at the costume party last night. My girls are 4 and 2, and they had a wonderful time. What I appreciated most was how good all of you were with the kids, and it really seemed like you all wanted to be there. Thank you so much, and keep up the good work!"

Check out the pictures here!

Cookbook sale for Belize fundraiser

As most of you Sr. High know, the C-Group ladies do an OUTSTANDING job with the meals they cook for you guys every week. It's seriously some of the best food I've ever had! Well, now they're putting their recipes together in a cookbook to sell as a Belize 2008 mission trip fundraiser. As you plan for Christmas, consider purchasing one as a present for someone.

Here are the dates you should know about:

Monday, December 3: Youth group members will meet to assemble the cookbooks at church starting at 3:00 PM. This will be in place of Hurlbuts C-Group meeting that evening. Please plan to be there!

Sunday, December 9 and December 16:The cookbook and bake sale will take place at church between services and after the 11:00 AM service. If you're willing to help out with that, contact Mary Ronning at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 320-763-3558. No prices will be set for the baked goods. Instead, we're asking for free will donations.

Listen to The Bible Experience online

I've added a dramatized audiobook version of the entire Bible to our online music server. It's VERY well done, professionally performed by 23 Grammy winners, 8 Emmy winners, 5 Golden Globe winners and 3 Oscar winners. Listen to the Bible come to life! It's like watching a movie, except without the picture. If you have a hard time reading the Bible, now you can listen to it with all the original feeling and emotion right from the comfort of your computer. Learn more about it here.

To listen to The Bible Experience, login to our website at AlexandriaYouth.com. Click on the "Christian Music Library" link that appears in the left sidebar. Follow the instructions.

Teen Internet Workshop video archived online

If you missed the Teen Internet Workshop for Parents this past Tuesday but want to watch the video of the seminar, it's now archived on our youth group website. The video is a little over 2 hours long, so carve out a little bit of time to sit in front of your computer for it. Feel free to pass the video link to other parents you know who could benefit from the seminar, too. (Once you click "Play," give it a minute or two to get the streaming started before it actually starts to play.)

Watch the Teen Internet Workshop video online

Or, if you attend our church and you'd like to have the seminar on DVD, contact me directly.

In the seminar I showed a video of a CNN interview with Anastasia Goodstein, author of Totally Wired: The truth of what teens and tweens are REALLY doing online. I HIGHLY recommend this book for any parents who wants to understand more about the online social world and how teenagers are interacting with it. Get the book on Amazon.com.

Here's a link to watch the video of the CNN interview on our youth group website.
