Sept. 2 -- First day of School for District 206

Soul Fuel: It's definitely not fun to be unprepared when you are called on to answer a question in class. Maybe that's why the Bible tells us that we must "always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have" (I Peter 3:15). God wants us to be ready to give solid answers to people who get curious when they see us live and give our faith. Soul Fuel will help you become effective and relevant to those who are seeking Christ or are trying to tweak their Christianity.

Parents Dinner: We realize that the parent is the most influential person in every student's life, so we want to enjoy a dinner with you and discuss how the youth ministry can support you best. We'd also love to hear how your teenager is doing spiritually so we know better how to encourage him/her at church. Sign-ups for parents will be made available both at the youth kisok at church and on our website.

Wake 'n Ski: Almost every Sunday Jr. Hig and Sr. High students get together at someone's house enjoy an afternoon of water skiing, tubing, wake boarding, knee boarding and more. Afterwards we feast on a cookout together and do a quick 10-minute Bible lesson that's outreach oriented for your pre-saved friends that you invite. The cost is $5/person to help cover gas and food, but your unchurched friends come free!

Make sure you're on our TXT message list so you get instant last-minute cancelations notices if the weather goes bad or the location changes.

May ParentLink: Teenagers and Jobs

This month's topic is teenagers and jobs. Just in time for the approaching summer, your family can start talking about whether kids are ready to work. It also dives into other aspects of employment. Together your family can explore attitudes about work, what kind of rewards your teens expect from their jobs, and how they know when they're overworking. Download it here.

Pictures from The Journey's scavenger hunt

We had a great time last night doing the Photo Scavenger Hunt! You all did an excellent job! We checked out all the pictures last night on the big screen while eating ice cream, but now they're online so you can check them out more closely and post your comments.

C-Group raking project

Both the Monday and Wednesday C-Groups are having their first of two raking nights this coming Wednesday, May 7, at Lake Blackwell, by Holmes City. Meet at the Ripley's and together you'll walk over to the home you'll be raking. Anyone who comes late after practices can look for and follow the signs by Ripley's to easily find the place. It is right across the lake from their home. (drive 9 miles west of Alexandria on Highway 27. Turn left at the intersection just past Holmes City, the Strawberry Patch, there will be a sign for raking at that interesction. You'll see one more sign. Follow it.) Please bring rakes if you have them, gloves if you need them, and an attitude for some fun servanthood. After you finished raking, you'll head back to Ripley's for a hotdog supper and bonfire.

150 FREE movie tickets for Expelled

I have 150 free movie tickets for the film Expelled, with Ben Stein, which opens at Cinema 9 this weekend and will play for only two weeks. If you want to see the movie, please contact me or find me at church and I'll be happy to give you as many tickets as you need. If you haven't heard of the movie, basically it's a documentary advocating for an open discussion between Intelligent Design and Darwinism in public academia. It's quite fascinating. Here's the trailer on YouTube.

Final Burning Bush

The final Burning Bush of all time is Friday night, May 30, at New Life Church. We'll experience a great time of worship led by Joe Schoenack and band followed by a time of honoring all of our graduating seniors. Invite your friends because it's going to be a great time, especially since it will end with free pizza for everyone! As always, Burning Bush is for students in 7th-12th grade. It all kicks off at 6:30 PM and should end around 8:30 PM.

Christian hip-hop/reggae artist, Ryan Daniel, at Minnewaska H.S.

Glenwood Lutheran Church is hosting a Ryan Daniel in concert on Wednesday, May 7th. He is a Christian Reggae/Hip-hop artist who travels with a full band, D.J., a light show, and break dancers. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM at the Minnewaska Area High School Auditorium in Glenwood, MN. Admission costs $3.00 and a canned food item per person. If you would like to sample his music you can go to http://www.myspace.com/rdsod. Flyers are available at the youth kiosk at church.

Ending The Journey with a Party on May 7!

The last official night of The Journey is April 30. However, we're going to end The Journey for this year with a photo scavenger hunt the Wednesday after that, May 7th. Each small group will pile into their leader's car and drives around town with a digital camera to take pictures from a pre-determined list (for example, "Take a picture at Wal-Mart with at least 3 employees -- 100 points"). After an hour, we'll meet at church again, tally up the points and watch a slideshow of everyone's pictures in the Ministry Center while eating some snacks. Arrive at church a little earlier than normal because you'll be leaving with your small group leaders right at 6:30 PM!

Final youth worship band practice times

The final youth worship band practices are Wednesday, April 30, for Jr. High and Sunday, May 18, for Sr. High. The band is open to anyone who wants to participate. Just show up at 5:00 PM with your voice and/or instrument.

Summer backpacking trip for Sr. High

This summer one of our Monday C-Group leaders, Tyler Johnson, is working with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in the Seirra Nevada Mountains leading camping and hiking trips. If you're interested in going on a trip with him, you'll spend 5-6 days on a back-packing hike, rockclimb, rappell a Peak ascent, explore caves, learn how to respond to wilderness emergencies, and more. You'll also recieve in-depth Bible studies led by various youth pastors. Find out more at http://www.seaandsummit.com/. The total cost for airfare and camping supplies will be around $600. For more information, contact Tyler: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 320-491-3106. Flyers are available at the youth kiosk at church.
