You can download the Summer 2010 youth group schedule here. It explains what’s going on this summer, how you can stay up-to-date, a description of what the events are, and more. You’ll definitely want to print this out and keep it handy all summer. Or, pick up a printed copy from the youth kiosk at church.
Video of our Haiti testimonies
God did a lot of amazing things while we were in Haiti two weeks ago. In this video people from our team share what we learned, experienced, and saw while serving in Haiti.
Waken’ Up Wakeboarding
This note is from Gary Anderson, the founder and wakeboard instructor for Waken’ Up.
Hey wakeboarders and surfers (and anyone interested in getting better at such)!
Summer is just around the corner, and you’ve probably already been making plans for sports, work, vacations, etc. Will you be making time to join our team this summer? If so, we need your commitment no later than May 15th! Here are the details:
Tuesdays, 3:30-9pm (6/22 thru 8/17).
$220 for season (plus USA Waterski dues of $40); 2nd child in family saves $110.
Seek scholarships from Action Sports Ministries by reaching me.
If not committed by 5/15, you are ineligible to be in the club.
Latecomers should note that we might host a weekend camp or two (details TBD).
To commit, simply have a parent reach me and give me their word (by 5/15).
As in the past, all club members (boy or girl) must be at least age 11, and will receive a free kickoff weekend (June 11/12), free t-shirt and year end video, free use of top equipment, up to 8 practice sessions, devotions, meals, season-end parent night, USA Waterski trained drivers and coaches.
One of they key feedback areas I hear from you parents is about having a parenting seminar sometime. You parents have expressed an urgent need for help in navigating the complex issues they face in trying to raise Godly children. So, on Saturday, January 30, we will be hosting a 3-hour workshop, called Real World Parents, to give you the Biblical principles and practical tools you need now.
What does this training provide?
Realistic, practical next steps, not cheesy ideas that teenagers will roll their eyes at
Help understanding what is really happening in our culture by looking at the latest statistics and what they mean
A deeper look at the Biblical principles of parenting, and how to apply them
How to build trust, independence, proper boundaries and wise decision-making
Ideas for how families can integrate faith into their everyday lives
Vision of how God wants to use each family to bring His love and generosity to their neighborhood
Reframes the local church as a resource that supports the entire family
Follow up web site with free resources to help pastors and parents go beyond the seminar
Join us on Saturday, January 30, for Real World Parents. The seminar is from from 9:00 AM to noon. The cost is $10/couple, which includes your workbook.
Parent Resource: “10 ways to turn around your teen”
Here’s a free ebook called, “Ten Ways To Turn Around Your Teen,” from HeartLightMinistries.org. I haven’t read this ebook in it’s entirety, but it looks worth passing on. As a free download, there’s really nothing to loose.
On November 21 we had our Alexandria Allies Dodgeball Tournament. It was a lot of fun! All the teams did extremely well pounding each other with balls.
On Monday, December 21, Youth For Christ is hosting a hangout for Jr. Highers in the YFC room at 8th and Broadway in Alexandria (top floor of the old KASX building, by the radio tower). It starts at 7:00 PM and will go until 9:00 PM. Come hang out, play games, play Xbox, ping-pong, foosball, and even win some pretty amazing prizes.
This is intended to be a Youth For Christ outreach event, so all church kids are expected to bring at least one friend who doesn’t know Jesus.
Hope to see you there!

Yes! That’s right — form your own teams of 6 to compete in a dodgeball tournament against teams from other youth groups in our community! You’ll get a cool team uniform and the winning team gets a trophy! It’s on Saturday, November 21, and starts at 1:00 PM at Lake Community Church. Feel free make a team with kids outside our church, too!
To enter, you’ll need to pick up a registration packet from the church in about a week or two. For now, form your teams!

A couple weeks ago you sr. high students wrote a lot of questions about evangelism and sharing your faith. Come to Sr. High Impact on October 18 to have your questions answered. It starts at 6:30 PM!

The early registration deadline has passed, but you can still register up until October 16. The cost is $105 and the retreat dates are October 23-25. Pick up a registration form at the youth kiosk at church.
The Schmoyer’s are hosting the final parent dinner for the summer at their house tomorrow, Thursday, July 30. It’s a great opportunity for us to get to know each other a little better and talk about how the youth ministry can link arms with you parents to influence your teenagers’ spiritual walk. The dinner is from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
To sign up, call the church office at 320-763-5659. If you can bring a drink, desert, main dish, salad or anything else to share, that would be great!
No Soul Fuel this week
Due to the parent dinner tomorrow, there will be no Jr. High Soul Fuel meeting. However, next week, August 6, all jr highers should bring a swimming suit and towel along with their bibles. We’ll have a great time swimming in the lake before we get started with our Bible study.
Of course, if the Schmoyer’s have their baby around that time, Soul Fuel will again be canceled, so please keep your eye on AlexandriaYouth.com for the latest info.
Sr. High Canoe Trip
The Sr. High Canoe Trip is on Sunday, August 9th! The cost is $25/student. Parents who are able to help drive are welcome to come for free. We even cover your gas. We’ll leave the church after the 8:30 AM service (around 9:30 AM) and will arrive back at the church around 7:00 or 8:00 PM. Wear a bathing suit (one-piece suit for girls, please), extra money for dinner on the way home, sunscreen, and a packed lunch to eat once we arrive at the canoe rental place.
Sign up by contacting Ruth in the church office by Thursday, August 6th.
Interested in baptism?
On August 16 the church is hosting a baptismal service on Lake Burgen. If you’re interested in being baptized, there’s a class in room 114 at church on on August 9 from 12:00 to 1:30 PM. Sign up at the welcome center at church or by calling the church office.
If you’re a teenager and are unable to make it to the class due to the canoe trip or another conflict, contact Tim Schmoyer to schedule another time to go through the baptism material.
CHIC Highlight Video
Last Sunday we showed a highlight video of CHIC 2009 at all three services. In case you missed it, watch it on YouTube in HD.
Keegan Jorgenson and Tim Schmoyer give an overview of what’s coming up this summer at Alexandria Youth. L.T. shares ways you can stay up-to-date all summer long with the latest news and info, Josh talks about why it’s important that he stays plugged in to a small group, and there’s a “YouTube Video of the Summer” that you won’t want to miss!
