Haiti deadline coming up

If you missed the initial Haiti meeting two weeks ago, contact the church office for the handout with all the information on it. However, if you’re interested in going, the initial $470 is due this Friday, August 20, if you haven’t gone before. For those who want to go back to Haiti with us and people from outside our church body, your deadline is August 30 for the $470. The remainder of the cost for airfare is due September 17 (whatever that works out to be). The actual trip dates are October 16-23.

Baptism time change

The baptism on Lake Burgen this Sunday is now at 4:00 PM. If you’d like to learn more about baptism and talk about possibly being baptized yourself, contact Pastor John at the church or by emailing him at jlevahn@alexandriacovenant.org. Come out and support everyone and bring a dinner to eat at the picnic afterwards! It’s at the Martinson’s house at 2155 S. Burgen Drive SE in Alexandria (Google Map here).

Parent Dinner this week

Our final open parent dinner at the Schmoyer’s house (Google Map here) this Thursday, August 19. Sign up by calling the church office. If you can bring a drink, salad, desert, or main dish to share, that would be helpful, too.

Movie Night next week

Remember Movie Night at the Schmoyer’s house next Thursday, August 26, at 9:00 PM. We setup the big screen on the outside of the house and sit in the driveway to watch a movie. The movie is TBD, but we’re thinking about showing the movie, To Save A Life. Any votes or opinions, contact Tim via text message, Facebook, phone call, or whatever else works for you.

We start promptly at 6:30 PM, so be here EARLY to make sure your small group can leave right on time.

Each group needs to make sure they have a digital camera for taking assigned pictures around the community. When we return, we’ll look at everyone’s pictures, give out prizes, and have ice cream.

Students: please bring a note from your parent saying you have permission to drive around town with your small group leaders, too.

Leaders: make sure you have enough seatbelts for everyone in your group. If you need another car to help with transportation, ask a parent to help.

Updates from our team while in Haiti

This Friday morning 14 people from our church and 5 people from other churches are going to Haiti to help build shelters, work with children, support the Haitian pastors and churches, provide relief aid, and more. We’ll be there for a week, so please pray for us while we’re gone.

There’s a 50/50 chance that I (Tim) will have some limited Internet access via someone’s cell phone while we’re there. If so, I’ll be posting updates, prayer requests, pictures, and maybe even some short video clips when it’s available.

Updates will be posted on Facebook, Twitter, and the front page of our youth group website:

Adventures In Missions will also be updating their website with reports about our trip, as well. You can follow those reports here. If Internet access doesn’t work out for me, that’s the only place where you can follow updates about our trip.

MOVE Video/Pictures

Some of the sr high had a great time at MOVE 2010 two weekends ago cleaning a school in inner-city Minneapolis. Here’s our pictures and video highlight.

He will present evidence which helped change his mind from skepticism about the resurrection, creation and Christianity to a personal confession of faith in Jesus as Lord. Dr. Bierle is an author, former evolutionist, and biologist.

  • Saturday, May 22, “Making sense of Creation and Evolution,” at Alexandria Covenant Church from 9 AM to 12 PM.
  • Saturday, May 22, “Searching for the Real Jesus,” at New Testament Church (time DBA)
  • Sunday, May 23, “Revealing the Fingerprints of God,” at Lake Community Church at 9:00 AM and Mount Carmel Retreat Center at 11:00 AM
